TrendNet TV-IP422 Surveillance camera

Today we had our eyes glued on the surveillance camera TV-IP422 from TrendNet. A stylish security camera with good quality picture, fast response times and features to keep you busy for quite some time.

My experience with network cameras in the past from leading manufacturers such as Sony has told me that these cameras just aren’t as good as the ones going on analog lines. Ok the picture quality will probably be better on the analog lines for quite some time still, but those cameras that was brand new back in 2006 was not half as good in speed as this one is.

I was working as a security officer at a very well protected property and we did not have that many cameras, so the network wasn’t directly overloaded. But those cameras were very slow on response times.

The image quality was about the same as well as on the TV-IP422.

To test the performance of this camera I’ve put up a big download from a linux server on the same network to my main computer and got just around the 100mbit my network can offer on the transfer.

No noticeable difference was seen in the response times for the TV-IP422, it still responded as quickly as when there was no activity on the network with no performance loss in the image quality.

Try doing that with those Sony cameras back in 2006 and you would have snapshots instead of a running stream ;)

So, finally I would like to say that this cameras as well as the wireless version TV-IP422W is great cameras for surveillance. Get a few of these and you’ll definitely get a cheap yet powerful system that can keep your property secure 24/7.

I just miss one thing and that is continuous rotation by clicking an arrow key or perhaps with the arrow keys on your keyboard, other than that this is a perfect camera for any use.

You can also use it as a fancy webcam when chatting on Skype or MSN ;) A bit expensive for that, but if you have some money that you don’t know what to do with, go ahead!

The TV-IP422 goes for around 250 EURO in Sweden which is way cheaper than any of the leading brands.
