Antec Sonata Plus 550
When we open up the case we find a lot of cables, a rear exhaust fan, power supply and an accessory bag.
We also find on the inside of the case side door there is a noise reduction plate, the black one, that helps reduce the noise inside the case.
The “accessory bag” gives us a 230V power cable, modular cables for the power supply and lots of screws.
Something that this bag doesn’t hold is the drive bays easy installation brackets. These are instead found in the bottom of the case, three in the back of the case and three under the drive bays.
The exhaust fan is powered by a 12V molex connector and controlled by their TriCool™ controller. This makes it easy for you to choose which speed you would like your fan to use, low, medium or high.
Antec also provided the case with a 550W power supply which is the NeoPower 550. This power supply offers lots of different modular cables but still keeps the 24pin ATX connector, 8 pin motherboard connector directly connected to the PSU board.
This must also be the first power supply that has really firm connectors, compared to several other products from Silverstone, the 1000W from Antec and some other brands. Also this power supply is standard sized which make it fit into any normal chassis available, if you decide to change computer case someday.
If we take a look towards the drive bays from the inside we can see there is a lot of space available. We also find the 3.5 inch drive bay that can be removed.
Also seen is the 3.5 inch disk drive bays that offer two different installation methods. One is by installing the disk drives on soft silicone grommets that reduce the noise coming from the drives, a perfect solution for those who move their computer a lot, perhaps to different LAN events.
However, if you want to reduce the vibration as much as possible, Antec also offers a suspension mount with three sets of elastic suspenders. This however is best for those who seek the ultimate noise reducing function and perhaps not for those who travel a lot with their computer as the disk drives is guaranteed to move around with this type of mounting.
In the back of these drive bays we can catch a glimpse on some vent holes.
So if we take our heads out of the inside and go around to the front again and open up the front we find our drive bays, the front ports, power and reset buttons but we also find a washable fan filter for two fans.
We also find that the front panel is using some hinges in metal and also enable you to exchange the front totally if you want. Also, if the door starts to give away metal sounds when you open or close the door you could always use some lubrication to get the noise away ;)
The power button is also backlit by a blue light emitting diode, LED for short.
Two fans can be mounted on the inside of a smaller door found behind the front panel. This door is fastened with two thumbscrews and is quite easy to open.
On the inside of this door you also find the disk drive bays which is quite easy to access from the front. In the bottom you can also catch a glimpse of the three hidden drive bay brackets.
Final thing to show you is the 5.25 inch drive bay that holds the converter to 3.5 inch which can be removed.
On next page we’ll take a look at our conclusion and the score table.
