CM Storm Scout

Christopher Fredriksson

CM Storm Scout comes in a black package with a red sniper scope targeting the case itself on the front. A very stylish and sturdy package which reveals some heavy packaging inside that protects the case during transport.

Extracting the case from the packaging reveals a stylish black beast. On the side we find a plastic window with air vents used for both passive cooling but even active cooling with up to two 120mm fans.

The window is fitted into a slight bevel of the side panel to make sure the window doesn’t steal any space inside the case that might be needed for your CPU cooler. The right side looks pretty much the same except that there is no window on this panel.

Furthermore we find handles on the top that makes it possible to lift and transport the case very easy, either with the middle handle and lift it with one hand or on the sides with both hands. A very nice touch even if the handles are more visible than on the Sniper case.

On top of the case we find ventilation holes used by the top exhaust fan, these are incorporated into the curvy design and below we see the perforated steel which hold the fan in place and let the air pass through.

Having a look at the back reveals nothing special. Even the Scout comes with the cable guard PCI bracket but this time it is fitted in a normal expansion slot.

We have one 120mm exhaust fan installed, but you can exchange it for a 90 or 80mm fan instead. Some extra ventilation holes are found on the side of the expansion slots, we also see the power supply will be installed in the lower part of the case, making sure it takes as much cool air as possible to keep it cool over time.

Scout is fitted with four thumbscrews, two on each side panel together with handles to easily grab and remove the side panels.

Flipping the case around to the front reveals a mesh style design with the stylish Scout logo in the bottom. The front is also easily removable which simplifies the removal of the drive bay covers.

As the front panel control is fitted on top of the case there is no cables that run through the front of the case.

Let’s have a look at the front panel controller.

From left to right we find the reset and power button, disk activity and power led together with a led controller for the fans.

Below we find one eSATA connector together with microphone and headphone jack and finally four USB ports.

Just above the front panel controller we find the CM Storm logo nicely in red and white.

Tilting the case over shows us the feets, hard plastic feet which are not so good at reducing vibration to the surface below.

On next page we’ll take a look at the inside.
